Breaking Through 2024
Set aside what others tell you cannot be achieved and push aside regulations, deadlines, codes, budgets or anything else standing in your way – imagine if none of those had any bearing on what could be accomplished…

Healthcare Design is pleased to introduce our next Breaking Through conceptual design competition! We invite your most imaginative, innovative, and inspiring ideas for solving future healthcare delivery challenges through imaginative designs that break free of traditional constraints and follow your vision – plan it, draw it out, and share it! We welcome entries submitted via submission forms at healthcaredesign.net or as pdf documents sent directly.

Reservation Deadline for February 2-2024.

Finalist teams will present their concepts during a keynote session of the 2024 HCD Conference + Expo and audience members will select one as the winning team, receiving $10,000 as prize. Furthermore, all finalists and winner will receive extensive editorial coverage both print and online.

Phase One – Introduce Your Concept/Idea To The Jury Now! Proposals must be received by March 8, 2024 with an entry fee of $655 being invoiced per submission.

Submit a written proposal of your concept using our Proposal Form and include up to two graphic representations to support it (optional). Our elite jury will review all ideas/concepts submitted during this phase, selecting only those they find most compelling for Phase 2. Proposals must contain:

* To clearly communicate the project intent.
* A summary of specific healthcare challenges or opportunities your idea addresses.
* An outline of the design elements you will incorporate in your concept and how they provide a novel way of approaching and solving previously identified challenges (or creating new opportunities).
* Up to two graphics may also be provided to support your proposal.

Note: Participants who submitted projects in previous years are welcome to resubmit them for this competition, with Phase 1 results being released on April 5th to all participants.

*This competition is open to individuals or teams; vendors/manufacturers do not qualify to compete.

Phase 2 – Impress the jurors with impressive graphics and details to support concepts (only those projects selected in Phase 1 will move onto this phase). Presentations must be complete by May 31, 2024.

* Graphics that support your concept should also be provided in our PowerPoint template, such as sketches, drawings, plans, models or renderings. All slides should contain detailed captions to assist the jurors in understanding your solution or innovation.

Finalists will be announced on June 27, 2024.

Phase 3 – Present compelling presentations at the 2024 HCD Conference & Expo LIVE via streaming video (only Finalists who were selected by our Jury will move forward to this phase) Final presentations are due September 20, 2024 and we’ll meet with Finalists shortly after being informed as Finalists in order to review presentation requirements and answer questions about any further requirements or possible concerns that arise.

* Finalist teams will present their concepts during a keynote session of the 2024 HCD Conference + Expo and be judged by audience members; one team will win $10,000 as audience favorites will select them as winners.
* Additionally, all finalists will be entitled to up to three complimentary full conference registrations (worth $4350 each).
* Finalists and winners will receive extensive editorial coverage both in print and online media.
*Projects that advance past Phase 1 will have the opportunity to showcase their conceptual designs at the 2024 HCD Conference + Expo through The Breaking Through Gallery.

Terms and Conditions: Each entry must be original, produced exclusively by the entrant(s), and meet all the stated requirements. By making their entry submission, an entrant represents and warrants they have met all such criteria. Where permitted by law, winners agree to grant and confirm in writing upon being asked by Sponsor to permit Sponsor and those acting pursuant to its direction or control, permission to print, publish, broadcast and use, at any time or times (including online media), their portrait, picture, voice likeness and biographical information for advertising trade and promotional purposes without additional consideration and without notice, review or approval unless prohibited by law. Further, winners must complete and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability Release and Publicity Release as required by law, along with providing evidence of identity and age with either their social security number or valid state/federal issued identification (i.e. driver license or passport). If documents are not returned on time or if a winner fails to comply with these Official Rules or declines their prize for any reason, or becomes ineligible due to any reason whatsoever, their prize will be forfeited and may be awarded, at Sponsor’s sole discretion, to an alternate winner. Each winner will be issued a Form 1099 (or 1042 for non-U.S. Citizens) as required by law and must provide their Social Security Number upon receiving it. Taxes associated with accepting the prize fall solely under the responsibility of its recipient. Without limitation, everything regarding this Competition, including its prize, is provided “as is”, without express or implied warranty of any kind; these include but are not limited to merchantability, fitness for purpose or non-infringement. No matter the circumstances, in the event that a court of competent jurisdiction finds any release void or invalid, participants agree by entering this competition that any claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, with no attorney fees awarded; and (II) under no circumstance may any participant claim punitive, incidental, or consequential damages as they waive their rights to such awards hereby.
